Spectacular Altar Frontal / Antependium
French and dating from second half of the 17th century
Gold silk satin the entire surface worked in polychrome silk needlework
Metallic thread couching and embossing of rosettes and flowers
Featuring various little birds and pairs of peacocks.
18th century hand made Silver metallic lace ruffle at top.
Later re lined in pale gold silk and fringed with later passementerie braid.
Considering this exquisite panel is approx 350 years old is in remarkably good condition, slight areas of wear to original ground silk, which is to expected and in my opinion does not distract from its beauty at all
