An Exceptional Antique French Aubusson Portrait Tapestry
Dating from circa 1700
This is an original portrait tapestry not a section cut down from a larger hanging
Hand woven with immense skill using coloured wools and silks The quality of the weaving is truly exceptional.
Just look at the detail its breathtaking I have had this exquisite tapestry in my private collection for many years.
I purchased it from an antique market in France. When purchased the reverse was full of dust and cobwebs probably quarter inch deep. The front had been protected behind a dirty very thick heavy glass panel . I spent many hours gently removing the dust from the back and had the glass removed. To reveal a magnificent tapestry in the most wonderfully preserved condition
The Vendor told me he had purchased the tapestry from a Chateau attic sale. I believe the tapestry was stored face down for many years , this explains absolutely no sun damage to delicate pastel colours and the amount of dust and debris accumulated on the reverse
The condition of the tapestry is very good, almost mint.
The frame has some old scratches and marks A rare extremely decorative example which would make a worthy addition to any advanced collection
SIZE The frame is 31 inches x 25 inches (79cm x 64cm) The tapestry portrait is 24.5 inches x 18.5 inches ( 62cm x 47cm)
