A Very Rare Italian Velvet Cover
Cut and uncut voided silk velvet in green on a light yellow ground
The pattern is a lattice of Leaf motifs, with the diamond shaped openings containing stylised flowers
Florentine or Venetian
Comprising two 20 inch loom widths panels stitched along a central seam
Dating from late 16th early 17th Century circa 1600
The cover is edged with early 18th century metallic tassel fringe and back with early 18th century crimson silk damask
This extremely rare panel is over Four Hundred years old and of course shows appropriate signs of wear commensurate with this immense age Antique, as found, time worn with an exquisite patina that only centuries of use can achieve
Has been professionally stabilised at some time in the past Age related marks / wear mainly along central seam

A rare museum worthy textile , in hard to find large size, usually you only see very small individual fragments of circa 1600 velvets outside of Museums Would make a worthy addition to any advanced collection
