A central portrait of The Virgin worked in silks and metallic threads appliqued within a large Sunburst
The Italian or Spanish Virgin panel appears to be early 16th century , the silk velvet later 16th century
The outer circle of embroidery dates to the 17th century
The 17th century gold and silver needlework is in good antique condition
Antique time worn condition. The velvet is pieced in places which is quite normal as these very expensive velvet were often salvaged and re worked many times
The central Virgin applique is at least 400 years old and has wear consistent with this immense age. Remnants of her blue silk , gold and silver metallic robes can be seen
