Upon Crimson silk velvet dating from 16th century within a beautiful 17th century hand made Silver bullion lace border
Laid over a later antique crimson Cotton Velvet. Finished with antique gold and silver metallic fringe
Backed with 18th century natural dye hessian
A small hand written note which accompanied the panel retained. Which reads Antique Embroidery XVII (17th century) Velvet XVI Century (16th Century) Spanish
The museum worthy central panel is over 350 years old and of course shows evidence of this immense age The Gold and Silver bullion threads have now taken on a pleasing darker antique patina over the centuries
