Spanish or Italian and dating from early 17th century Circa 1620
Dark red silk velvet embroidered with Chalice within beautiful meandering floral borders in Silver metal threads
Remnants of original metallic tassel trim top and bottom
Probably part of an elaborate set of Altar textiles, perhaps a Chalice Cover
This renaissance textile is over 400 years old and of course shows signs of wear commensurate with this immense age. The silk velvet is a little darker in colour than the photographs under studio lights The last close up photo is closer to actual colour
