An exquisite and very rare Italian Baroque Needlework Wall Hanging
The panel dates from late 17th century (circa 1680)
Depicting the most beautiful flowers Worked in lovely pastel coloured silks and gold metallic threads Many in three dimensional padded stumpwork
backed with early 18th century home spun linen
Comes complete with eight 18th century metal hanging rings
Extremely rare large over size Work of Art One of the loveliest textiles I have ever had (i'm in no hurry to part with it)
I am quite sure I will never find another Can you imagine the amount of hours this took to complete, mostly by candlelight, totally amazing
Considering the immense size of this textile and the fact it is approx 350 years old it is in good antique condition
The original ground silk has almost completely worn away to reveal the hand spun linen below, which only adds to its immense charm Wonderful time worn patina throughout rubbing losses to silk some of the corded borders need stitching back down General losses and signs of wear commensurate with great age
Please study photographs as they do form a very important part of the description
If like me you appreciate rare and ancient textiles in totally original as found condition with an overall appeal that can only be achieved over centuries of age you will love this hanging. However not for a person who would be disappointed that their 350 year old textile shows wear and doesn't 'look like new'
