An exquisite panel {fragment} of the very finest 18th Century French Silk
The blue silk beautifully brocaded using opulent Silver and Gold Metal Threads (most likely real Gold and Silver wrapped silk) Which sparkle superbly (hard to capture the sparkle on camera)
The silk dates from mid 18th Century most likely from Lyon
Very rare to find this truly exceptional quality fabric Would have been extremely expensive in the 18th century
Can you imagine a spectacular a gown of this silk sparkling in the candlelight at an important ball A few faint marks otherwise in good antique condition with gentle signs of wear commensurate with immense age and use.
Blue is slightly lighter than appear in photos
Overall good for age and type. One selvage edge present
Please study photographs as they do form a very important part of the description
PLEASE NOTE I found an example very similar in design to this panel on display currently at the V & A Museum. See last two photographs
