Magnificent 18th Century Velvet Panel
Large scale Medici design.
Green silk velvet, cut and voided to reveal the opulent gold ground, which is of high metallic content
Florence or Genoa Circa 1730 - 1750
Finished and all four sides with antique metallic gold and green silk braid, which is a later addition
Could this design have been an inspiration behind Mariano Fortuny's later Olimpia pattern , the layout is very similar
Considering the panel is over 250 years old is in remarkable condition There are some lovely hand stitched historic darned restorations which in my opinion add further to its immense charm
A very rare high quality example
Would look spectacular framed
