Very rare Italian (Florentine) Renaissance Textile Panel
Dating from late 16th Century
The crimson silk velvet appliqued and embroidered in coloured silks with large flower and foliage
Would originally been part of a long pilaster hanging
Backed with sturdy antique linen.
This ancient panel in an antique, time worn condition with general signs of wear commensurate with over Four Hundred years of use The velvet is worn the nap has in places rubbed away over the centuries revealing underlying base. Wear, losses, old restorations . Fairly delicate however reasonably stabilized with slight padding and the thick linen backing
