Originally a costume which has (probably in the 18th century ) been carefully de constructed and the individual pieces re worked into a beautiful cover..
Finished with 17th century metal braid
As velvets such as this were an extremely expensive purchase which only the very wealthy could afford it was quite normal for the very valuable fabric to re worked sometimes many times throughout the generations
The velvet is late 16th early 17th century.
The gold metal braid is late 17th century.
The velvet is over 400 years old and of course shows some evidence of this immense age . It has an enchanting beautifully time worm faded granduer appeal
